Real World: Curtiba

Hello everybody this is Maryssa. All we lack here are tv cameras, and we could have our own show. We could call it The Real World: Curitiba. Even though it's boring here we could keep people entertained because all the crazy things that happen here. For instance today 2 of the boys were trying to get my Dad to smell Gabriel's underwear. (of course he refused) I don't think there is any way to explain our boredom here. Everything we do is very limited. You can play soccer with our volleyball, you can hit the beach ball over the net... oh wait they popped that, watch Woody Woodpecker in portuguese, color in Christmas coloring books, or you can change poopy diapers. Which would you pick? Meal times are crazy. You sit in this cafeteria for breakfast and lunch and for dinner you have to do your own meals. Kids are getting out of there seats, throwing things over the table to the next, dropping silverware. If they don't like certain food on there plates they put it on yours. My mom actually makes them peel there own bananas so it keeps them occupied for a few minutes. That's pretty sad. Then for dinner. I don't even like thinking about it. Can you say ham and cheese? That's pretty much what you have every single night. Plus your stuck in the tiniest kitchen you have ever seen in your life. We all have to eat in like 3 shifts. Laundry is also pretty bad. You have to do everything by hand. And with lot's of little boys it takes a while to scrub everything off. Like dirt, mud, and skidmarks in there underwear. Then you have to put everything on a line to dry and have to watch out for the rain and stuff. Then when you put them on they are so stiff and wrinkly. I can't wait to have a washer and dryer and neither can my parents. I hope everybody is thankful for thiers out there. The kids just love tv. The 3 older ones can just sit there for hours watching it. And all there is on is Woody Woodpecker. The 2 little ones can sit there and watch it for about 30 seconds. My brothers already feel like my brothers because I already want to hit them in the face. They sometimes just aggervate you, I don't know if they even know that they are but they do. Robert is just the cutest thing you have ever seen. He still has a pacifier and the only thing anybody can unerstand from him is more and right here (in portuguese). Earlier my Dad was changing him and said, " Eww there's that poop I just love." It was really funny. You also have to watch him all the time. Or he will be gone. I mean gone. Gabriel sucks his thumb and is very photogentic. He always wants you to give him a kiss and put your hand on his face. That's how he falls asleep at night. He looks like my Dad alot. Diogo is so sweet but can have meltdowns. He has the cutest smile with his 2 bottom teeth missing. He likes to sing and be silly. Ana Carolina I like because I actually have a sister. She likes playing with her baby dolls that she stole from the suitcase. Today I was listening to my ipod on my bed and she didn't know I had turned it off and she was singing to her baby doll. Then she realized I was watching her and just covered her face and started laughing. Marlon really likes to play with Matthew and loves my parents a whole lot more than I thought. He is always hugging and kissing them. He is sometimes aggervating and bossy to his little siblings and they listen to him. My dad wanted me to tell everybody how great he is so there you go Dad. No, I'm just joking. My parents are doing awesome and I really appreciate them a whole lot! My grandparents are helping us out a ton too. We wouldn't be able to explain anything to the kids without them. I'm so happy that they came. I know my Dad has already told everybody but they wake up at 6:00 a.m. They are up and ready to do something too. And they are hungry so we have to keep them occupied until 8:00 a.m. that's breakfast time in the cafeteria thing. At night it takes a good hour and a half to get just Robert and Gabriel to sleep. You have to lay down with them and hold there hand, scratch there back, rub there hair all that kind of stuff. Everybody's favorite part of the day is shower time. That's when we know we almost made it through another day and they are quite and love it. And that's the only time that nobody bothers you. But the bad part about the showers is that the water isn't really hot. And only little trickles come down. You also have to walk everywhere you go. And your most of the time afraid to cross the street because people drive fast and totally crazy. Taxi prices are horrible too. People are lazy and really laid back here because most people close there stores between 12:30 and 3:00 so they can go home and take naps! That would never ever happen in the States. When you walk into stores you just want to bust out laughing because people aren't talking, laughing, or even smiling. I think people are afraid to look you in the eyes too.

Marlon and Diogo came running into the room today trying to tell my Dad that Gabriel stunk like pee pee. And my Dad made up this phrase and you will have to read it slow a few times before you get it but here it is.... "you know a kid stinks when another kid that stinks says they stink." Did you get that? If you didn't read it again. I just thought that was so funny. Ok before I end this I wanted to tell everybody how much of a change these kids have gone through. Before they wouldn't listen at all, they didn't understand 1 word in english, and never thought you were serious. Now they listen tons and tons better, understand and are even talking some english. They are learning more and more each day. Well have to go! It was fun writing this blog! See ya in 29 days!

Love,

Maryssa
